Carole Setzer, President
Dear Retiree:
We, the California Retired Teachers’ Association, protect your pension. We are
asking you to join us. A strong CRTA is absolutely necessary. Four years ago, the
state refused to put the required $500 million into STRS. We took them to court and won the $500 million, plus $200 million owed in interest. Recently, it was suggested that the STRS funds be considered in balancing the state budget. This budgetary suggestion concerning our retirement funds is a direct threat to our security. This is one of the reasons our outstanding legislative advocate informed us that we must double our membership in order to have the power necessary to meet our future challenges. Please join us to protect your pension and to promote other benefits for you.
As a member, you are eligible for a $10,000 interest free loan in case of a disaster,
insurance discounts, 30% off on See’s Candy, and a death benefit from STRS of over $6,000. In addition you will also receive the Contact magazine that will inform you of all legislation affecting California retired teachers. Also our newsletter “Reminder” comes out every two months to report on our programs and the latest in legislation. Membership costs only $42.00 per year or $3.50 a month by dues deduction.

We would like to see you at our meetings, but you do not have to attend to be a member. However, if you do, you’ll have fun! We have treats and socializing from 1:15 p.m. to
2:00 p.m., a brief business meeting in which you’re updated on current legislation, a program (either musical or informational) and a free drawing for prizes. You’re out by 3:00 p.m. We usually meet on the second Monday of the month on the lower level of the CTA building in Burlingame. We truly hope to see you.
Sincerely,
Carole Setzer
